A permanent position in the Technical Services Department at the Institute of Mine Seismology (IMS), Rustenburg, is available.

We are looking for young ambitious individuals with at least one of the following qualifications from a South African tertiary institution:
B. Eng Mechanical Degree
B. Eng Mechatronics/Electromechanics Degree
B. Eng Electrical/Electronic Degree
B. Tech Engineering: Mechanical / Mechatronics / Electrical (Low current)
N. Dip: Engineering: Mechanical / Mechatronics / Electrical (Low current)

The job will be hands-on and practical in nature, and a fair amount of time on the job will be spent at customer sites rather than at the office. Customer interaction will make out a large component of the job.

Candidates should possess an astute practicality, sound judgement ,and strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills as well as good communication and interpersonal skills. Candidates should be able to work well on his own as well as in a small team, be energetic, enthusiastic, flexible, and a self-starter willing to travel.

Duties in brief:
Installations and repairs of the IMS seismic monitoring system in mines (mostly underground) around South Africa and Africa, including training and writing documentation for customers
Technical support for various local and international customers via email, phone calls, remote logins, etc. including standby duty for 1 week/month
Writing proposals and preparing quotations for tenders and customers
IMS hardware repairs, fault finding and adaptations. Skills/qualifications required:
At least one of the qualifications listed above
A strong IT competency
Willingness to travel locally and overseas
Willingness to work underground in the mines around the world
Good communication skills (written and verbal) in English
South African citizenship or a valid work permit

Other requirements:

Code B South African driver’s license and own transport
The candidate would be based in Rustenburg, with a 3 to 6-month training period in the Somerset West office
Successful candidates must pass a medical examination for work underground
