Permanent position in the Science & Technology sector at IMS in Somerset West (40km from Cape Town), Western Cape in South Africa.

About the Position

We are looking for ambitious individuals to join our development team to design, develop, maintain and support a Java-based system for seismological services. Candidates should have strong analytical and problem-solving skills as well as good communication skills. The ideal candidate should be able to work well in a small team, be energetic, enthusiastic and flexible.

The position available is in our technology group and would involve work on our visualisation and analysis software: from the design of GUI’s to the development of algorithms used for the analysis of seismic data recorded in mines around the world. Java and the NetBeans platform would be used. This role involves some customer interaction, presentations and training courses as well as some international travel.

Skills/Qualifications Required:

  • Honours/MSc/PhD in Computer Science
  • Aptitude and interest in scientific analysis and programming (any two low-level languages)
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal) in English
  • Some background in Maths/Physics/Applied Maths beneficial, but not essential
  • South African citizenship
