Permanent positions in the Technical Services Department at the Institute of Mine Seismology (IMS), Somerset West (1) and Rustenburg (1).
We are looking for ambitious individuals with at least one of the following qualifications:
• B. Eng Electrical/Electronic Degree
• B. Eng Mechatronics/Electromechanics Degree
• B. Eng Mechanical Degree
Candidates should have good communication and interpersonal skills as well as strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills. The ideal candidate should be able to work well in a small team, be energetic, enthusiastic, flexible and a self-starter willing to travel. The job will be hands-on and practical in nature, and a fair amount of time on the job would be spent at customer sites rather than at the office. The successful candidate will be expected to take full ownership for the outcomes of projects assigned to them.
The minimum duties would involve:
• Installing and repairing the IMS seismic monitoring system in mines around South Africa, Africa and Europe, including training and writing documentation for customers
• Technical support for various local and international customers via email, phone calls, remote logins, etc.
• Fulfilling standby duty requirements (approximately 1 week/month)
• Writing proposals and preparing quotations for tenders and customers
• IMS hardware repairs and fault finding, modifications, etc.
Skills required:
• A strong IT competency
• Willingness to travel locally and overseas
• Willingness to work underground in the mines around the world
• Good communication skills (written and verbal) in English
Other requirements:
• South African citizenship or a valid work permit
• Code B South African drivers license and own transport
• The candidate would be based in Somerset West (1 position) or Rustenburg (1 position), with an initial 3 month training period in Somerset West
• Successful candidates must pass a medical examination for work underground
